THE EDU360 FAIR 2018: A GOOD IDEA AND MEETING POINT FOR EDUCATORS AND PARTNERS

The edu360 initiative of the Union Bank Plc held on October 23 and 24, 2018 was a gathering which I hope will lead to many of such gatherings in the coming years in Nigeria. It was a good opportunity to start the long awaited "National Conversation About Education" in Nigeria. But, fortunately, it was not really a gathering about serious discussion on education in Nigeria.

Edu360 was, from my view, a platform created by Union Bank Plc to showcase its financial products targeted at schools, students and parents. The educational financial products offered schools, students and parents a secure financial future. With such bank accounts schools now have a trusted financial partner in Union Bank Plc to assist them with ready cash for school projects and other urgent financial obligations. Students and parents owning such accounts are assured of a stress-free education financing. I sincerely would like to encourage schools, students and parents to take critical a look at these financial products of Union Bank Plc to see how they could help them fund their education needs.

Edu360 also offered participants a platform to network with one another with regards to the work they do as educators, school administrators, leaders, service partners and school leaders. There were present many schools and businesses at the exhibition stand to promote their services and products. It was fun seeing, knowing and learning about them. We also had training sessions for educators, parents and students.

I would like to see a progression in the coming years at edu360 where serious development in education will be discussed. The need for a National Dialogue on Education in Nigeria is long over due. Education is a serious business and should rank first among national discourses.

Other corporate organizations should take the initiative to create such platforms as a way of contributing to the development of education in Nigeria. This will go a long way to help us address the challenges bedeviling our education today. We cannot afford to be complacent about education in the country. If we are, it is to our own destruction.
