N64 Billion for ex-miliitans in Nigeria
It came to me as a surprise when I saw in one of our national media that the present government is planning on spending the sum of N64 billion on the Niger-delta ex-militans. What could this huge sum of money be used for? If such amount is the Nigerian Federal Government planned expenditure on these ex-agitators, what is the planned amount budgeted for the actual development of the oil-rich region where these individuals came from? Are the issues that drove these people into militancy being addressed? What about the Niger-delta road map plan? How much has been done to implement that plan?
It will be dangerous to address the Niger-delta challenges by focusing on the symptoms without doing much about the degraded state of it's economic, environmental and social life. What do you think?
